General Moving Tips

  • Regard moving as an opportunity to get rid of belongings you no longer need. Consider making ”donate” and “sell” piles in each room for things you could do without.
  • People have a tendency to keep outdated paperwork for a very long time. Realise that paper is very heavy. Do yourself a favour and get rid of any outdated documents prior to moving.
  • Make sure you have a generous supply of packaging tape, scissors, markers and labels. Alternatively why not consider our professional packing service?
  • Defrost your refrigerator in time for moving day.
  • Dont pack the kettle just yet, removals can be thirsty work!

3 - 4 weeks before your move...

  • Notify your bank or building society, credit card companies and store card providers that you are moving and give them all the necessary information they will need
  • Contact mobile phone companies, telephone, cable, satellite and internet service providers and notify them of your new address and the date you are moving
  • Inform your neighbours that you are moving and let them know the removal date
  • Start the packing / de-cluttering process if you are doing it yourselves
  • Notify your child's existing school that they will be leaving and then contact their new school
  • Contact all relevant insurance providers
  • If you are moving away from your local area contact your doctors, dentists and opticians then re-register in your new area
  • Notify your local council in both your current area and your new area that you are moving with regards to council tax

1 - 2 weeks before your move...

  • Contact TV licensing and notify them that you are moving
  • Notify all utility providers

3 days before your move...

  • Pack a large bag with useful items that you may need on the day of your removal, for example a first aid kit, nappies, tea bags, knives and forks, candles, torch etc
  • If there is any dismantling of furniture you should have pre-arranged this with your move manager. If you are doing it yourselves then please make sure that you keep all screws and fixings in a safe place.
  • Make sure that you have arranged to have all appliances disconnected by a professional
  • All freezers should be defrosted unless discussed with your move manager
  • Pack your jewelery and important documents in a safe place, remember to take them with you and keep them secure on removal day
  • All boxes should be taped shut and labeled correctly, FRAGILE etc

1 day before your move...

  • Park your car outside your house in readiness for the removal vehicle to arrive tomorrow or arrange with the local authorities to have bays suspended. We will need to have adequate space for our removals vehicles.

Moving day!

  • Keep all important documents and items on your person
  • Before the removal crew set off for your new destination make sure you have checked the house thoroughly to make sure nothing has been left
